You are not alone! No one should feel isolated when experiencing stress or anxiety. Let me walk with you for part of your road.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work focused on children and families. In addition, I am a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor. My passion is helping families by empowering them to discover, learn, and attain emotional and mental wellness. I have dedicated my career to working with families in various capacities including: individual counseling, couples counseling, and home studies for adoption as well as family counseling.
For more than 20 years, I have provided a wide range of counseling and services to individuals and families, including anxiety-focused therapy, conflict resolution, drug and alcohol counseling, transitioning life circumstances, employee assistance (EAP) short term counseling, work with teenagers, and improving family communication.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other evidence-based therapeutic techniques to empower clients with skill to battle depression and anxiety.
In my work, and in my personal experiences of losing a child, undergoing miscarriages, battling with secondary infertility, and living in an international orphanage, I have seen how few specialized services exist for families facing unique circumstances and exploring family building options. Counseling can offer couples a safe place to process these experiences and consider the direction a family wants to take. For some experiences in life, it is helpful to speak to someone who knows the degree to which a heart can hurt and that healing is possible.
I have specialized training in EMDR (trauma therapy), grief and loss, and family therapy.
Counseling can transform your relationships and improve your quality of life!

About Kelsy:

I’m an adoptive + step parent, pediatric nurse, mindfulness coach, and meditation instructor.

I became a parent to my stepsons first. Eight years later, we adopted our son at age fourteen. It has been a rocky road of ups and downs. After several years, I have a close relationship with my three sons. I feel called to support other adoptive+non-birthing parents on their journeys.

I created this space because I know what it feels like to step into parenthood in a way that doesn’t follow the “traditional path” and how unsupported that can feel.

I use both lived experience and mindfulness-based tools to support you in a way that is real, grounded, and actually usable in everyday life.

When I look back at becoming a step-parent and then adopting a teen…it is a blur of just going for it and trying to navigate the non-traditional journey along the way.

I spent many days and nights feeling alone. Deeply in love with my kids yet feeling like I did not know them. Longing for the connection of a mother but knowing they did not come from my body. Feeling afraid of rejection and deeply hopeful to be someone they felt close to.

Being an adoptive+non-birthing parent felt lonely. Like I needed support but that type of support did not exist. All parenting offerings were close…but I had to adjust on my own to apply any support, parenting stories, common parenting ups and downs, etc to my unique situation.

I hope to use my story and lived experience along with my journey as a mindfulness coach to offer a supportive space to other adoptive+non-birthing parents navigating parenting.
Things we will work on together:
-
Bonding as it unfolds in its own time, not on a timeline
-
Navigating identity and figuring out where you fit in your family
-
Getting to know your child while building connection at a pace that makes sense for everyone
-
Making space for emotions that are not commonly understood, mixed, or hard to explain without overthinking it
-
Supporting blended or already-established family dynamics (because those can be… a lot)
-
Parenting and connecting with kids of all ages—from babies to teenagers

Alongside this, we use mindfulness-based tools and nervous system support to help you stay grounded through overwhelm, disconnection, and the general chaos of parenting humans. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s helping you create rhythms and relationships that feel steady, real, and actually livable.
